The operations in FATA that were conducted from 2007 to 2010 had a very significant effect and purpose. This was so because of repeated militant expansion which ultimately led to the surrender of 7 Baluch. The Army was generally confused and demoralised. Most or all settlements made with militants were either violated by the militants at will or then totally ignored. At that time 11 Corps was dealing with the operations and had 7 Division in North Waziristan and 9 Division in Wana with some troops as loose brigades in Swat. The overall situation was that the Indus Highway was closed with the Dara Tunnel to Kohat held by Militants.
